My dog Zara turns two this upcoming November. In the beginning of August, she began experiencing diarrhea. I began to notice weight loss, so I took her to the vet and I was told she had gone from 90 lbs to 75 lbs in only 3 weeks. My vet prescribed tylosin and cotazym, switched her to Med-iCal moderate calorie and within a few days her diarrhea stopped.
She was taken off the Tylosin, and within two weeks, the diarrhea returned. The vet switched her to Can-Addase an enzyme formula, the diarrhea continued and she still gained no weight.
I decided to switch her food to Acana Lamb and Apple, put her back on Tylosin and continued the enzyme formula and she finally began having solid poops, her stomach stopped gurgling. However, I took her back to the vet and she had dropped another 2.5 lbs in only 3 days! I'm beyond frustrated. My vet did some blood work, he said the white blood cell count was normal however her liver enzymes were quite high and asked if she had eaten in the garbage which she hadn't. He suggested to keep her on the Acana Lamb and Apple, increase her food from 4 cups daily to 6, take her off the Tylosin , maintain the enzyme formula and report back in two days with her progress. She's currently on 6 cups today, yet she's still completely starving and that's with the enzyme formula.
I feel like my vet is being vague, and I'm terrified she's going to have permanent damage as she's gone from 90 to 72 lbs. Usually, my vet is great. However I cannot understand why she isn't being diagnosed so she can begin to recover. Any input would be great
