I know he's only 8 weeks but he already knows his name and if we are calling him to do something he doesn't want to do he will look away, or even walk away and lay down facing away from us and ignore us. Is this just normal puppy or should we be concerned? Also he fights at the front door and acts like he doesn't want to go for a walk but once we pass the front door he heals the whole walk and doesn't tug or pull... So that's good.
But we can't figure out why he doesn't want to leave for a walk? We're thinking he just doesn't like to submit and is being stubborn? We walk him 2-3 x a day two short one semi long (he's still so little). We are trying to establish ourselves as pack leader by the healing of walks, he sits before we give him his food, we try not to let him mouth on us, he enters and exists the house after us and not before etc. But I feel like it's making him not like us and act agressive? Or maybe he's just being a normal 8 week old GSD? We are inrolling him on basic training at 12 weeks old and then Shutzhund.
You are expecting WAYYY too much from an 8 week old puppy. Look up Michael Ellis videos, marking training. ESPECIALLY if you want to do IPO. You want to build him up. Build his confidence and love of training. Not correct for every little thing. Let him be a puppy, explore and enjoy life. Find a good local schutzhund club( you can't post your location and ask others for recommendations) and go straight there instead of the obedience classes, unless the OB is positive based. They will show you how to train the behaviors needed.
