GSD/Border Collie 7 weeks, leaving in kennel
So me and my girlfriend will both be gone to school most days, at least 4 days through a week. And wanted to know if we should leave our 7 week old puppy in a kennel, from about 10am to 3pm. We usually leave him out in the bedroom to do as he pleases, he hasn't bitten the walls yet, there are no cords or wires in reach of him, and not worried about him peeing or pooing on the floor. Would just not want that on the bed or any of the furniture.
Another issue for leaving him out, would be if he would pull on the curtains and they fall down and he eats the tacs or screws, he tends to try eat anything hard.
Now, he hasn't slept in a kennel yet, tonight will be his first night, and we will be both in school on Wednesday. So I wonder if this would be ok if he hasn't had much time in one.
Eating isn't an issue because we feed him at 8am and 5pm, ussually does his business 15 minutes after so I don't think he'll drop one in the kennel. I know he'll probably pee, and wanted to know if we should leave water in the kennel for him, or would he be ok to go without water for 5 - 6 hours. It is a bit hot inside, about 70 - 80 degrees F.
So any comments or recommendations? What I have in mind is, feed him, let him do his business and put him in kennel. Put toys, water, puppy pad and his blanket in the kennel with him. That seem ok?
I don't want to leave him in the kennel, but I think it is something he needs to learn.
