You don't give a geographical area to look in so it is very difficult to recommend a good source of dog. You might also get into contact with the local rescues and ASPCA to get a dog that needs a home and is in danger of being PTS. Both of my girls are rescues and they are fabulous little girls who are the loves of our lives. My wife and I are well into our 50's so we too have one of us home all the time too. Rescue dogs are a great way to get a GSD and save them from destruction since they are very hard to place due to their sizes and perceived reputations. It will also save you a bunch of money and you can get a dog that is house broken and spayed already. Dogs of all ages and temperaments are available so you can really be as selective as you would be with a high dollar breeder. It may just take a you a bit longer to find the perfect little girl for your situation. PM me if you need any help locating a shelter or need help finding candidate dogs, I would rather save a pound dog than spend the money on a champion, but that is just me, and all of my girls are champions to me.
