I've never had to do it. But I noticed some tension between Kane and another dog about half his size so I was definitely prepared to do it because running for the water hose just seems time consuming and it doesn't always work. It's usually best when two people are present in case the attacked dog decided to keep defending itself even after the attacking dog has been subdued. Then both dogs can be separated safely and securely.
