Rant about people and their dogs
A little over a year ago there was a house on our walk route that had a sign up that said "who stole my puppy?" At the time I thought, wow that sucks. It was up for quite awhile. I heard that they saw someone take the dog one day, but had no clue who it was.
Fast forward a few months. They get a nice little pit bull puppy. It was very young, maybe 8 weeks old. Every day for close to a month when we would walk by the puppy would run out to us. The people would come get it. They never apologized. The road is semi-busy. I have no clue what happened to the dog. We went down state for the winter and the next summer it was gone. They didn't seem to have another dog and all was well.
Well about a week ago, a puppy (8 weeks, if even) ran out to the road while we were walking by. It looks like maybe some type of spaniel mix. They came and got it. Since then the puppy has come out twice. The next time was at night. It was dark when we were walking and the dog ran out. Our dogs barked and carried on, but the people never came out to look. So my mom picked up the puppy and knocked on their door. She told them it was in the road and the guy said " it was? I just let it out to pee." Now, you have to realize, they have no fence. So they just let it out, in the dark, all alone. The next time it came out, it was light out. Nobody was outside but a kid came out to get the dog after a few minutes. At this point, I had enough. I decided, before I saw the kid came out, I was going to say something.
I scaled back what I was going to say, but I still got my point across. I told the girl, maybe 10 years old, that she needed to tell her parents that if they need to either take care of the dog and get a fence or put it on a tie out (at the VERY LEAST) or take it to a shelter. I told her he would get hit by a car or lost. Her response was "yeah, we know."
I think I saw them constructing some kind of makeshift enclosure in the back, but if the dog comes out again I am telling the adult if it happens once more, I am calling animal control. If I could reasonably take another dog now, I would just take the dog.
