Where to begin...
First of all I'm a new member and loving this site.
I had wanted a GSD all my life but never figured I had the time. I finally decided to post a wanted add online for an adult dog in need of a new home. Within a day I get a response from a local lady saying she has shepherds of her own and she had come across a posting on facebook saying something along the lines of "If no one can pick the dog up within a week he's going to a shelter". She did not want to see another Shepherd head to a shelter and asked how serious I was about taking Jake in. He is an 8hour drive away and I could not get time off work that week to go and look at him so she left the next day, went out of her way for me to bring this dog back. I show up to meet him at her place and my heart just sank, he looked sick, was very thing with all ribs, hips and shoulder bones showing. He was only 43 lbs and 3 years old.
I knew once I saw him and looked into his eyes that he was a good dog and could not leave him behind. I took him home that day and he never looked back. Jumped right up into the Jeep and off we went. 4 months later his weight is up in the 60's and is the happiest dog I've ever met. I don't know much about the previous owners, if they just did not treat him well or couldn't afford to feed him? Who knows. I was told the previous owner was delusional when she had to let him go. Needless to say he's find a good home and has a full belly.
This is a picture the day I brought him home - the lighting in the second picture doesn't make him look nearly as thin as he was:
This is how he's looking after 4months:
