Vet, dog fight, hospital, why I was late to work this morning
I got up in good time. Not exactly when the alarm clock went off the first time, but not bad. I got a two-cup measure for Gretta, took it to the kitchen for the enzymes, and then set it to ferment. I had so much time, I actually put a few pieces in the puzzle on my dining room table.
But then I went to feed everyone and clean the kennels, and fill the buckets, like I do every morning. Only earlier, because today, I was going to the hospital to give the blood sample that is required for me to have my meds.
I put on my yuck clothes and sandles, and filled up the big bucket with the 50/50 blend, and put two cups in the crate for Ninja. And put Gretta's bowl up to continue to ferment, I will feed her last. I got done with the one side, and had five dogs to do. Hannah was being a brat, so I put her in the patio pen while I cleaned her kennel and Tori's. I was doing that, when I saw Tori's eyeball. It was bubbling out of its socket.
"Don't panic!" I told myself. I looked at her condition, and she looked awesome. So I decided to put her in a crate while I finished the last three dogs, then I would change my clothes and take her to the vet without calling first. So I went back out and fed Hannah and put her away. Then I decided that I did not want to put Dolly in the patio pen because that opens right up next to the crate I had Tori in, and I wanted to keep her quiet, so I let Dolly run in the yard while I cleaned her kennel and Heidi's, gave them water, and put their food down.
Only, I uhm, didn't shut Dolly's gate, so when I finished picking up her poop, I opened Heidi's and out she went. Through both gates. And then I hear the two of them making ugly sounds. I rushed out, and they were at it. I grabbed Heidi's tail and dragged them through gate #1. The other was through too. I went through gate two and got it in between. But they are not stopping. I got my hand in there and literally tried to push the teeth and open enough to get Dolly to release Heidi. Blood (not mine). That is pretty nuts. GSDs have huge power in their jaws, there is no way, I could have pried them apart, and could have gotten bit badly. Only I didn't. They did come apart, and at that point, Dolly's teeth were stuck in the gate, and I am hanging on to Heidi, while Dolly is panicking and there was nothing I could do. She managed to free her lower jaw, and the two BITCHES were pacing back and fourth at the gate way, and I realize that I am stuck in here with one bitch and no way out, but through the other, and I had to get Tori to the vet. Darn! with all the blood it could be two or three that need to go to the vet. I checked Heidi over, and she seemed to be bleeding in her ear. Dolly was bleeding in her muzzle. They will heal. If I would have bred Dolly, she would have been ready to have puppies next week, so the hormones were probably pretty high in her. They are both mature dominant bitches. I was an idiot for not being more careful.
Finally, I put Heidi in the corner and told her to STAY!, then I squeezed through the gate, and gave a cursary check to Dolly. Well, now what. I do not want her next to Heidi, I managed to shuffle them around so that she is next to Hannah where Tori should be right now.
I gave Gretta her food and got dressed and rushed to the vet with Tori. After all that I forgot the paperwork for my blood. I got into the vet office and we walk right into a 2 year old, running loose in the waiting room. A two year old kid. To be continued...
