This afternoon at our normally low traffic dog park we had an incident. A few of us usually get together at lunch in the park a few times a week. Everyone is very good with everyone else and very rarely is there another dog we don't know. Today though a father, son and a young husky came in. The husky was hyper and running amok. We were a little slow to start gathering our dogs together to keep them out of the chaos, and suddenly this husky stopped and started posturing over the smallest dog in the group. Nobody else saw this and I quickly told my pup to stay and went to grab the husky as she started going for the small dog. She went for my hand first so instinctively I let go and just got grazed with teeth and then she burried her teeth onto the little dog. Not for long before we could pull her off but long enough to give the poor thing some deep puncture wounds. I'm not sure if it was right to let go and let the small dog get bit or if I should have hung on and gotten bit. The husky owner was no good either. He blamed it all on the small dog. I wonder if he would have blamed it on me if I had gotten bit... The majority of people at dog parks have no class! So off the little dog goes to the vet (on her birthday). Hopefully its just a few stitches. I think I will avoid the park on the weekends from now on. I feel so guilty for letting go.
