Orthodontist Disappeared in the Middle of Treatment - Son's, not Dog's
The question is at the bottom of the page, if you want to read that first.
Long story. My son went into braces about a year and half ago. I LOVED the orthodontist, "Dr. A". Dr. A treated my older kids and can really handle the complicated cases - like my son. My son had oral surgery in May to expose his lower canine. Upon arriving for our first post-op appointment, with Dr. A, we were told that Dr. A would not be in that day. We could see the other orthodontist, "Dr. B", or reschedule. We saw Dr. B, but she didn't really do anything.
The next appointment, Dr. A, was still not there. The third appointment, Dr. A's name had been removed from the door. I asked one of the long time employees about Dr. A. I was told that the practice had been sold some time ago to Dr. B, who was working with Dr. A. Apparently, that was going well, until Dr. B. sold the practice to Dr. C. Dr. C is young and inexperienced. He is nowhere near the caliber of Dr. A.
So here I am, having paid thousands of dollars on a contract to Dr. A. I have 4 payments left. I am not happy with Dr. C, or his staff, or the quality of care. I feel blindsided that Dr. C wasn't upfront with us.
Fortunately, I ran into the same long time employee of Dr. A. She told me to leave Dr. C and pointed me in the direction of an excellent practice. Dr. A is very well known and respected in the orthodontic community. Other orthodontists are helping us out. When I called to make an appointment at the new practice, I only had to say, "My son was one of Dr. A's patients." The response was, "Say no more, you are about the 20th one now. Have his records sent over".
What is my responsibility on this orthodontic contract? The contract was with Dr. A. Every payment was made out to Dr. A. I never had a contract with Dr. C. I didn't even know Dr. C. existed. I will not be paying the remaining balance, but I also feel I deserve a refund for the time I paid and my son was not treated by Dr. A.
If you made it through the whole story. Thank you!
