I am dog-sitting a 8 month GSD
I've said before that puppies are cute but I don't want one. Well I have taken in an eight month old for an "undetermined" period. She is a lovely little girl, lots of spunk and great personality. She is a talker of the extreme variety, anything and everything gets a whine, woof, or chuff. It's fun to listen to her.
She plays with my older GSD(1.5-2 years old) great. Cable(older guy) jumps around and growls and makes the games fun. He towers over her and is waaaay thicker, he owns the game, and they both seem to know this.
Now my Mal on the other hand.....she is a bit more of an enigma. Her sole purpose in life is ME. What I'm doing, where I am at and how much food I might have on my person kind of dog. She is not really part of the pack in the sense of being social and playful with other dogs. She will on occasion bounce around with Cable and snort and yip, but it's limited and over quickly. She dotes on me and when I am present I am the only thing that matters.
So new pup(Allie) decided that Peppy(Mal) was to be a playmate. Peps will tolerate a lot, she is not reactive or a resource guarding type. She does have limits and Allie found them today. Peppy let her have it, I won't even call it a fight, Peppy so clearly dominated her, Allie shut down and waited for Peps to walk off. It happened faster than I could really see, one second a bouncy puppy hovering in Peps space and then puppy on ground with a very focused Mal standing over her. Peppy vibrates, her jaws chatter and her legs often shake, but she was stock still over Allie and was boring holes in her with her eyes. Even me, a primate, could read the signal...."DO. NOT. DO. THAT. " Once over Peps snapped back to normal and Allie went and tackled Cable.
All it now takes from Peps is a quick wuff and Allie scoots off, tho Allie does follow her around, watching and learning I suppose. She's gonna be a good dog.
