I posted this on facebook but I realize I need less likes and more opinions.
I know I will be judged harshly by confessing this on this forum but its worth it to get helpful feedback....Mac & Bart run free without leashes in my unfenced yard. It took awhile to train Mac to stay in the yard but of course perfect Bart did it automatically.
We put leashes on the boys when we leave the yard to be in compliance with the laws but we don't hold them. They heel naturally and drag their leashes. Up until yesterday this has worked for us for a long time.
Anyway yesterday Mac, completely out of character, ran into the road in pursuit of two sweet little senior women taking a walk and started fiercely barking at them. It only lasted a few seconds before I had Mac back in the yard but still. I was shocked by his behavior and of course apologized profusely. One of the women who I'm sure weighs less than Mac replied sweetly "thats a little intimidating."
Really? A little intimidating? If I were her, I'd be very angry. She was a seriously cool woman. We are so lucky to have such cool people in our neighborhood but I cannot take the chance of this happening again. What if my china shop bull knocked her over and she was hurt? I know I know I gotta build a fence to make sure nothing like this happens again.
In the meantime, what the heck? Why would Mac at almost 4 years old start running out of the yard and barking at these 2 women? Lots of people walk by, ride their bikes past ... walk their dogs...push baby strollers...and he's fine. Why would he all of the sudden act this way?
Sorry I think this is more of a vent than a question.
