College and GSD?
As you can probably tell, I am new to this site. I mainly joined because sometime soon I will be getting a German Shepherd, it is just a matter of when.
I am a senior in high school and currently live in Imperial County (CA). Next year I will be going to college. I plan to attend a community college for the first 2 years while living with my mom in GA. She has 2 medium-large dogs (male and female) both "fixed," and has 4.5 acres of fenced in land. After the first 2 years I will probably start college at a university, but I plan to find a pet friendly apartment. Until I do, or if I can't, my mom says (and she is not fibbing) that she will take the GSD.
My question is, should I adopt (from a rescue) a German shep now or wait? I was hoping to adopt an older (2-3yrs) GSD now so I could have "him" trained before I move...but would it be too stressful on the dog?
It is also going to be a pain to find a dog that is good with other dogs, kids, and cats; all of which we have now.
By the way If I get a dog before I move, it will travel by road trip.
Also, (sorry about the long post) I regularly volunteer at animal shelters and have experience with many types of animals, but this will be my first GSD.
Thanks so much -TMM
