Should I NOT nueter because of my 1 yr old's fear aggression?
My 1 yr old Jax has some fear aggression / fright bite / skittish tendencies. Its almost like a bi-polar anxiety. I need to decide how neutering him would affect it. Iím 100% aware that neutering is never used to help fix something, i'm just trying to figure out which way I should lean.
He gets very nervous when someone is in the house, if they show him they're scared, it fires him up a bit more. Eye contact and sudden movements donít help either. It takes him a very long time to warm up to someone, but when he does, heís amazing.
His aggression is simple.. Heís the dog that talks the talk but cant walk the walk. The guy that mouths off when his friends are holding him back. I donít see him ever attacking attacking like a German Shepherd normally would. Its more of stance wide, loud bark, glands open, lunge and retreat with a little front teeth nip in there. Sometime he will slowly brush by someone, gently nip on to their pants and slightly pull as he walks by. Like a human would pinch. Its almost like a taunt.
If there is a rare situation when he is surprised and overwhelmed by a group of people on a sidewalk. He flops. Its so embarrassing.
Iím almost positive this is genetic. With numerous vets and trainers agreeing. He was bred for work in the hills of WV. Thereís only so much socialization I can train. As heís grown up, his nerves have calmed down a bit so I am hopeful he will grow out of some of this
