My dog steals his treats from my hand!
Or at least he tries to. He never manages it, because I know what he's trying to do. He will try to take them from me before I decide he gets to have them. I recently introduced a new dog into the home, same age as my GSD (11 months.) I have been giving them both treats at the same time, and he has taken to trying to steal hers. Tonight, I went to give them both a treat. I made them sit, then lay down. Panzer (my GSD) did it right away, so I gave him his treat. Lena (my Australian Shepherd/Australian Cattle Dog mix) sat right away, but had to be guided down to the ground (by following my hand with the treat in it.) As I went to let Lena take it from my hand, Panzer reached over and tried to take it from my hand and BIT my hand in the process! I know he wasn't trying to bite me, only take the treat, but the fact that he 1) Thinks he's entitled to things he hasn't earned and 2) Hurt me by trying to do so is unacceptable. How do I teach him that just because I have something that tastes good doesn't mean it's his?!
