Yesterday I had come home from work and took Sheba out for potty. As we were walking to her spot there was a fella that was approaching us. We passed him and I heard him grunting and out of the corner of my eye I see an arm outstretched and hand waving as to get my attention.
I stop and Sheba halts as we both look at him. He smiled and tried to murmur something. He is deaf. Mind you most of the time she goes puppy crazy at new people. But, this time, she didn't. She sat there smiling and wagging gently. He motioned in ASL asking if he could pet her. (Yes, as we know all people just want to pet without asking).
I said yes and told her to "go ahead" and she went to him SO CALM without any fear/hesitation signals and got a nice pet. He said thank you (in ASL of course
) And I gave her super kudos for being great.
Given her initial response to him, it was as if she knew he was different. Actually, I'm convinced she knew he was.
Anyone else have an experience with a special needs person that exhibited their GS ESP?
