Tips on keeping a sick puppy calm?
My four month old GSD had a couple of bouts of diarrhea yesterday afternoon but was still her normal, active, hungry self. We found some blood on one of her stuffed animals and figured the diarrhea might be related to her teething ... until she vomited copiously in the evening. We took her to the vet immediately and they ruled out parvo and her blood tests looked good. An xray showed some mineral deposits and some inflammation in her intestine. She had a few more bouts of diarrhea while we were there, so we elected to leave her overnight. The radiologist reviewed her xrays today and said it looks like she doesn't have an obstruction and that it was probably nonspecific gastroenteritis. We did give her a marrow bone the night before this started and when I took it from her I noticed there was a lot of fatty meat on it, so my suspicion is that she ate way too much of it and it didn't sit well with her, or perhaps was temporarily stuck. The vet said we can bring her home (whew) and to feed her a bland diet and keep her calm for a few days. It's that last part that I need help with. I can restrict her more strenuous activity like soccer and flirt pole, but how do I explain to a four month old who will hopefully start feeling better that she needs to mellow out? I can work on mental games with her, but that's only going to take up a small chunk of a long day and I'm going to have an extremely restless puppy. Any tips?
