Safe to Spay at Shelter
My shepherd, Kida, is getting near the age I'd like to have her spayed, and, maybe I was completely clueless, but I'm shocked at the prices I'm seeing for the procedure. The average cost is around $700+ (and that's excluding the removal of her umbilical hernia we would like removed at the same time). Our last rescue, Coco, was spayed at the shelter we adopted her from and they did a great job. Our dog, Marty, was neutered as well by the same shelter.
I know our shelter offers the spaying procedure for much, much less, but I've always been nervous about them spaying vs. neutering because its a much more in-depth procedure. But honestly, at what other places are asking, it might have to be considered as an option. Has anyone had any experience using shelter spaying services? We are located in Santa Cruz, CA if it makes any difference.
