Hey! I'm looking for advice on an issue my German Shepherd, Kida, has had since she was a puppy. She's almost 7 months old right now; we've had her since she was 8 weeks old. A rescue, so we don't know much about her background in terms of parents and their genes/issues, etc. Overall, she's been an extremely healthy dog, great personality, absolute sweetheart. However, she's had an issue with consistent diarrhea since we got her.
She's been through all the usual tests and nothing abnormal has come up; but, she continues to be extremely sensitive to most foods and we haven't discovered a specific correlation yet. She was on a probiotic for a little bit when she was 3 months old, per the veterinarian's recommendation, but it didn't seem to help much at all. I did a bit of research and found the suggestion of "Slippery Elm Bark" and decided to give it a go to see if I could stop the diarrhea and luckily, and surprisingly, it did. Within a day or so, her bowel movements started to stiffen up and if she is given it consistently, once a day, she goes to the bathroom just fine. If I forget to give it to her, or in the rare chance we run out, her bowel movements immediately become loose, then almost to the point of watery.
From the research I've found, I'm pretty sure, though obviously need to have it diagnosed, that she has irritable bowel disease. Once we have the funds, I plan to take her to my preferred vet and have it officially diagnosed. What I was hoping to find advice for on the forums was any suggestions on natural remedies she can be given to help her with firmer poops? Anyone used L-Glutamine, or DGL licorice?
She is currently on:
Canidae, Chicken and Rice
Solid Gold Seameal
Slippery Elm Bark
Attached a picture of her as a puppy and a recent photo (well, it's two months old now) =)
