transfer from agility to protection sports - which one?
I've competed in agility for about 10 years, but protection sports are totally new to me. There is a club very close to me that offers IPO, Mondio, French Ring, and Belgian Ring. I am most familiar with IPO, but just from reading about it, no personal experience.
I have a 4 year old DDR/Czech GSD who I would like to try in some protection sport, mostly because I have been wanting to anyway, but also am looking for extra work on his obedience and impulse control specifically while aroused. He's one of those dogs who gets easily stimulated and loses his brain in the agility trial environment (and even in practice sometimes). I have quit trialing him for the foreseeable future but will be entering fun matches where we can do training in a trial environment.
Anyway, which protection sport do you think would best help with this, or would they not help at all? I'll admit I've been leery of them because at least what I've seen from IPO training the dogs just seem to bark and bark until they get what they want (the tug or sleeve), which is exactly what I'm trying to undo with my dog. Am I wrong about this? Total newbie here!
