dermatits that keeps coming back after treatments
hi, i have a 7 month old male, he's my first so i've done a few things wrong with him.
first of all, i "over shot" him. i agreed to all the shots the vets suggested, lumped some of them up together and the rabbies vaccine was done at 4 months.
i was ignorant, i'm not now, he's not getting another shot.
anyhow, sometime after that he developed dermatitis. took him to the vet, they said it was "contact dermatitis", gave him meds, i changed cleaning supplies to water, and right after meds it was back again.
so i'm back at the vets, now they said it's not contact dermatitis because they found it all over, so it's probably a reaction to food or environment. They tell me he's probably allergic to beef and chicken (back then i was giving him half dry food and half cooked beef and chicken). what they're not telling me is that most likely this allergy was brought out by the vaccines.
so back on the meds he went and that same day i switched him to raw beef and chicken. i didn't believe the vets back then that he was really allergic to beef and chicken, after all, shouldn't the first thought have been that he's allergic to all the sh*t in the dry food.
i had really high hopes for raw but now that he's off the meds his spots are coming back. i'm keeping him on raw no matter what but i want to get rid of the dermatitis and i don't want to give him any more meds.
i can't watch him suffer, he's itching like crazy. can someone please help? any ideas at all? i'm going to try buying meats other than beef or chicken but chicken is the cheapest and i'm afraid long term i won't be able to keep it up.
i'm really hoping that after time the vaccines will wear out and he will be back to normal. is this not reasonable to hope for?
sorry for the ramble, i tried giving all the background.
