should we or shouldn't we?
Our elderly dog is in his last part of life, meanwhile we have a 2yrs old fiesty gsd female who is generally very playful, smart and sweet with us. She has played with other dogs in the yard when introduced by our trainers in the yard, Outside of the yard she is snarling and her hackles are up after she just played with them as if she never met them???
Anyway, my husband and I want one more dog, when our oldest one passes, but because our female can be snippy and guarding-aggressive I am nervous about another dog in th household. The main trainer, a man who trianed military dogs in the Italian army said that if we get another GSD to get a male but to be sure he is under 3 months of age and no older because of her guarding and dominence. I still worry that she will jump a little pup whenever it grabs something to play with. I could have an exercise pen and of course crate training where he could happily munch on a snack or bone without interference but has anyone gone through this type of situation??
Does it make a difference inbringing hr to the breeders ( 2hours away) to see who she gets along best with?
I thought of just having her after he passes but my husband really wants a large male gsd and well, I kind of want one too but I want the best for both dogs. Any suggestions?
