How do I get Kaiser calmed down before we go for walkies?
Anytime somebody grabs a leash Kaiser gets really excited and goes after the leash. He jumps for it and constantly bites at it. It's a huge pain to get him in his harness and then get the leash on him. Even once the leash is on he still goes after it.
Ideally, when somebody grabs the walkies stuff (harness and leashes) he would get all excited and go sit by the door so we can go.
How can I change his behavior?
I've started just putting everything down and turning my back to him until he sits. As soon as he starts up again I do it again. Today it went so far that I took the other two dogs for a walk and left him home.
My wife says he didn't like that. He said he sat at the door whining the whole time we were gone. Makes me feel bad for him, but I'm not going to permit him to bite at things in that fashion.
Any recommendations are welcome.
Also, beside the pet smart basic obedience class starting next week I'm going to be calling a few local trainers to see if there is one I like and can work with.
