Just after different thoughts, opinions and suggestions.
I'm from Australia. I've got a 9 month old female GSD and a 13 week old Male GSD. They're both very aloof of new people in the household and don't seek affection from them. They both stand back and suss them out for a few minutes before even thinking of approaching them and sniffing them.
With regular guests and visitors they're both friendly and affectionate. At the local park or out in public where they're familiar, they're very comfortable with anyone patting them and looking at them.
I'm socialising my 13 week old boy a lot, taking him everywhere. So far, i've taken him to airport, train station, bus depot, tram stops, puppy school, friends houses and i've let him stay the night with other friends so he isn't as dependent on myself or his sister.
I use 'YouTube' a lot to play sound effects to assist them to different sounds such as sirens, explosions, fireworks, thunder, rain, hail, peop le talking and animal sounds etc.
I want to know if you guys have any suggestions to help this? I have tried the obvious by giving guests treats to invite them but they're reluctant to accept anything from 'strangers'.
In addition, I want to add that my Father was a Schutzhund trainer within the Australian Federal Police for 22 years before he passed away. The GSD isn't like it used to be. Confident and Bold. A lot of people are now reporting how their GSD's are somewhat Timid. I want to know if breeding is similar what it is in Australia.
Thanks for your time guys, very keen to hear your responses.
