I need help picking a surgeon as close as possible to me in Durango. ABQ NM is actually closer to get to than Colorado Springs or Denver. I am open to any suggestions. It appears that Emma may be eligible for a TPO Orthopedic Foundation for Animals: Hip Dysplasia
rather than a full replacement.
My vet has a traveling specialist that can do the TPO here in Durango. His name is DR Steven Gentry. Home base is Ridgway CO. I do not believe he is board certified. Mt trainer has given him mixed reviews, but suggested checking into the following doctor.
Dr. Peter Schwarz, DVM Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Centers LLC - About Us: Doctors
is board certifed and can do the TPO or full replacement. I cannot afford the full replacement option at this time. I haft to be realistic about this. Emma's x ray was set to him this morning, so I should hear back by the end of the week. He used to teach at CSU and has probably done a lot more than DR Gentry.
The TPO needs to be done very soon while she is still growing, otherwise it is treat the pain and wait and then do the full replacement if I can afford it or end her suffering at some point. I am devistated even thinking about making that decision, but I can if needed.
My vet is more than happy to send her x-rays to others for additional opinions and recommended both.
Does anyone know of these two Doctors, or others close to me, including Colorado Springs or CSU (easy driving distance. Also what questions should I be asking other than how many they have done and success rate or problems we may encounter.
Unfortunately Emma is showing some signs of the HD now with bunny hop running ad slightly favoring one side as she comes up the two steps or climes up on the bed using the foot stool we have. However she does not whimper or grunt. I am giving her Glucosamine/chondroitin once a day and have Novox 75 mg for pain, which I try to use sparingly as needed (if I see her limping or hesitating getting up) as it upsets her stomach sometimes. Is there something better? Can anyone recommend a good online pharmacy for this, as the price from the vet is $21 for 14 pills.
Thanks for your thoughts
