Explain this apparently dominant behavior
Kira did something I've never seen her do before, and was wondering if you could possibly explain what she may have been thinking?
I was doing the usual open field retrieving with her. We were alone (as always), when along comes someone with a 4 month lab puppy. Without asking any questions, he lets his puppy loose. The puppy immediately ran to Kira, and Kira just sniffed. Within a flash, the puppy submitted on its back, and Kira walked away. As soon as that puppy moved, Kira turned, and made sure that puppy NEVER moved. The slightest movement fro the puppy, resulted in Kira face in her face, and submission. No growling, no open mouth, just a stare, and obvious motions for that puppy to not move an inch.
Feeling uneasy, I leashed Kira and removed her.
In your opinion, what was she doing?
She hovered over this puppy, and would not let it move, and the puppy knew exactly what she wanted.
