A trained cadaver dog may notice the odor of a decomposing animal but not follow up on it or indicate on it. We worked past one particularly bad one one day and I wish I had a picture. The tree killed the beaver who was felling it. The beaver was the size one of those fitness balls (took us a minute to figure out what it was). We were gagging; the dog peed on it and moved on. But I have had my dogs jump right over rotting deer caracasses without even noticing them.
There are forums for cadaver dog handlers ........... but they are closed groups typically requiring some form of authentication.
