I think for something that long ago, if the breeder does not come up on a web search I would go to The Pedigree Database - Home of the pedigree enthusiast, create an account, search for GSDs with von rommel who appear to be similar lineage, and then click on the history of the pedigree.

Then you can PM anyone who entered it and maybe connect with someone with dogs from the same background. You HAVE to be logged in to see the history of user entries for any pedigree.
