For those of you who visit Emergency Vets -- RANT
For everybody who takes their pets in to an emergency vet, please don't get angry with us because your pet has been here for X hours or can't be seen right away. We understand you are worried/concerned about your pet, but we are working as fast as we possibly can short of cloning ourselves. We are stretched thin due to the high volume of patients that come in, especially during the holidays.
I'm really sorry that your dog who is having blood in her/his urine has to wait 2 hours to be seen because a seizuring dog came in right behind you and was a stat. Please understand that because we are an EMERGENCY hospital, that a critical patient will always go first no matter how much you complain. Even if the lobby may seem empty, you are not the only patient in the hospital - EVER. Oh and by the way, the process will also not go any faster because you complain. All you manage to do is stress everyone out even more and slow us down. Like we don't have enough of that already.
I'm also really sorry that your rDVM is closed during the holidays and we're one of the few places open so we happen to get slammed... ALL DAY. I promise that we're not just sitting around twiddling our thumbs and leaching your money while doing nothing. We really do care. If it were possible we would love to get your pet in and out under an hour. Most (95%) of the time don't know the answer to "How much longer is this going to take?". It's going to take as long as it's going to take! At any one time we typically have at least 6+ patients in hospital and typically at least half are hospitalized patients. During the holidays multiply that by at least 3!
All I'm saying is please be kind and courteous as we are to you. We know what you're going through and we know you're waiting. We're here because we care and we'll do whatever we can to help your pet.
