Default Baton Rouge, La (#29363): "Xander" - Sable GSD Male Adult (adopted)

Xander arrived at the public shelter in Baton Rouge, La. nearly two weeks ago. His stray hold is up, and he's available for adoption or euth.

He's got a beautiful face and eyes that radiate intelligence. He's large and athletic. He's very friendly with volunteers and staff. He is self-confident and eager to meet new people and explore.

Xander arrived with a purebred Rottweiler as his "traveling companion," so we know he gets along with some other dogs. He was also introduced to a small, energetic female dog, and he was polite and well-mannered during the meeting.

He's been at the shelter for just a couple of weeks, but he's already starting to show signs of "German Shepherd Shelter Syndrome" -- depression, lack of appetite and lethargy. The difference in him just from last weekend to this weekend was striking. I really want to see him get out of there and into a good home soon.

Xander is available at the Companion Animal Alliance shelter at 2680 Progress Road, Baton Rouge, LA 70807. His impound number is 29363.

This is a "kill" shelter trying to transition to a "no kill" future. His adoption fee is $80 (which covers neutering, microchip and up-to-date shots). They also have a partnership with Companions for Heroes to reimburse the adoption fee for approved first responders and military (go to companionsforheroes.org for more info). This shelter will consider out-of-state adoptions, to approved adopters willing to arrange transport (though they may seek a courtesy home-check by a reputable rescue in your area).
