eight years ago i went looking for a boy sheppie when my dakota left for the bridge. i'd never had a girl, always boys. my vet's office called and said there was a litter of puppies with a reputable breeder that i should go look at. off we went and there you were...three weeks old the first time i saw you...the biggest one in a litter of eight, and pushing all the others out of the way to get to your momma and your "lunch". seven little black rats...one giant powder blue one. i thought for sure you were a boy because of your size and your assertiveness...i had NO IDEA what to think about your beautiful blue color (tho i knew my dad and grandad would roll over, since it was a fault according to the standard). in a lifetime of shepherds i'd never seen a blue. i immediately said, "that's the one for me", gramma pat said, "but that's a GIRL", and i said, i don't care, that's the one for me.
baby-ser, sera beara, misser-moo, sidewinder, the tank. i cannot believe how the time has passed and that you are eight years old. you are aging fast now tho, and i can only hope we can make it until you are nine. for me there will never be another like you. you are one of a kind, you are...my girl.
happy birthday seraphina blue!
