Most posts from more than a year ago are pruned. This is a large board, lots of members and lots of posts daily so pruning is necessary to stay within the server space.

The old outdated software you refer to isn't that out of date. The newest version gives you an option for on site or off site storage for photos, most large board will click the option for off site storage because again of server space.

There are options for you to save your pictures on some of the free sites.

You can get a free website to save your pictures, lots of those out there, you can use Photobucket, Shutterfly and I am sure there are a few more.
